Hi Christa,  If you really want to, you could start the Jacob's Ladder
indoors now. But in my experience, all the seeds you mention will start
readily outdoors by being scattered on prepared soil in late summer or fall.
All of them will self sow readily if the seed pods are allowed to dry on the
plant.  Most Digitalis are biennial as are the Dianthus barbatus, so they
will flower the 2nd year and then self sow profusely.  Of course, you can
always help them along a little by scattering the seed where YOU want it.
