The liatris pycnostacia will be grown in Iowa in
soil similar to where it occurs naturally. I am trying to establish a
production plot. The pycnostacia seems to be the one type that occurs in
the mesic to moist to nearly wet areas locally. I had heard that the
tobacco transplants were grown in styrofoam containers that float on
water. If that would work for the pycnostacia it would solve my two major
or rather two of my major concerns i.e. keeping the small plugs watered and
having too tender of plants if greenhouse grown. If I took them to a
shadehouse type setting then the lightweight flats would blow
away.Regarding the butterfly milkweed does the seed that is to be soaked in hot
water need to be cold moist treated at all? Before hot water? After. How hot of
water? Also is there a broad spectrum fungicide that can be mixed with
water and applied safely over the media with seeds planted in?
