Re Scott Vergara's note. My experience with seed of Crocus species is that
they germinate very reliably in early spring after sowing, whether sown soon
after they ripen or in the fall. I keep the seed pans in the open throughout
the winter, usually down to around 20oF intermittently and bring them under
glass as soon as they germinate. I agree that In nature they mainly ripen
early and get a hot summer, but I do not believe they need it to germinate.
