Hello!
I have joined this list out of personal and work-related interest. I'm
editor of The Growing EDGE; always looking for article ideas and writers,
specifically related to hydroponics, greenhouse growing, organic
gardening/farming, sustainable agriculture, and innovative techniques and
practices for indoor and outdoor gardening, as well as interesting plants .
The magazine is
targeted to small commercial growers and sophisticated hobbyists.
I have a B.S. in technical journalism, with a minor in life sciences.
Although I grew up a city kid, my mother had an extraordinary green
thumb. Our house was always full of plants. When we moved to a house with
a backyard large enough for growing, I grew my first watermelons and
potatoes when I was 12. I have been gardening as a main hobby for the
past eight or so years; completed the OSU Master Gardener program two
years ago. I became interested in growing from seed and propagating my
own plants when I realized how much money I was spending buying plants.
I now have enough room for a small greenhouse and a much larger landscape
to fill, so the impetus is even greater to produce my own plants. I had
recent success growing herbs in a cold frame from seed, and I'm quite
proud of them. It's hard not to point the plants out to friends walking
through the garden ("See those? I grew them from seed!).
I'm looking forward to future discussions.
