Re: sowing in plastic bags


As far as I know, Helleborus and Eremurus of your list, at least, are plants
the seeds of which require (or benefit from) three-stage germination. First a
period of moist warmth (20deg C) of around 4-6wks, then a stratifying period
of 6-8 wks of  minus 5 - +5 deg C, finally a gradual warm-up to 15deg C. 
Eremurus occasionally germinates without only a short period of
stratification.
Plastic bags can be used for the first two stages (seeds mixed with
vermiculite or similar) then spread the contents on normal growing medium.
