This is a question to let the experts answer.  Try posting to the
rec.gardens.orchids newsgroup.

As a rank beginner, I would say that you need more air movement. 
Orchids are tree dwellers that are used to wind in their faces.

Vanilla needs to be very long to flower, Vanilla planifola is reputably
the shortest bloomer that has bloomed when a mere 15-20 feet long.  It
also needs lots of support and doesn't like to be moved.  Lots of light
for this one as well.
