I agree with you, it is possible to germinate old seeds, but they usually
germinates faster and with higher germ. percent if sown fresh. I have
germinated stored seeds from Helleborus with success, and I have also
germinated stored Pulsatilla and Anemone seeds. I don't think it's a myth
that old seeds are not as viable as fresh ones, it is well known that seeds
loses their viability after a certain amouth of time, although it is very
different from species to species how fast they loose their viability. If
you have 100 seeds, germinating 90% as fresh, they will have lower germ.

while Trillium and Helleborus perhaps germinates 10 % less in a few months
or at least in a rather short time.
