News to me.  S. coccinea is a perennial herb with a rhizomatous rootstock.
It is near to hardy in the UK and many people grow it in protected
situations outside.  The downside is that it needs lots of water to do well:
In Natal it grows often in streams.  I grow half a dozen forms in pots
standing in trays full of water and let them dry out quite a lot in winter.
I grow Rhodohypoxis the same way and they do very well (they grow under
water falls very often).

By the way, I said that I might be able to help on Crocosmia, but you need
to remind me later in the year.
