Jim - why hate to disagree? Jean's posting suggested that same thing:
that A. triphyllum doesn't need a cold period. I'm delighted to
hear it, because I have heretofore followed Deno's instructions and left
the
seeds in the berries (when I could) to overwinter outside, cleaning and
sowing them in the spring. I'll definitely try your method. Have you
ever
tested a short soak versus a long one with the same batch of seeds?
And *I* hate to disagree, but disagree we do on A. thunbergii ssp
urashima. The seeds from the NCSU Arboretum grew fine without
any chilling, and produced leaves in the first growth cycle. But
we covered that one some time ago....
