We have germinated hundreds (thousands??) of Glaucidium palmatum seeds
over the years. Fresh seed germinates readily at warm temperatures
without any other treatment.
Dry stored seed was always treated with GA-3, kept in light, and
germinated quickly and easily, within 10 days-1 month.
Noticeable swelling of the seed is a sign that the seed has taken up
moisture (which is a pre requisite to any germination). However, seeds
can swell up and not germinate (if other conditions, such as the wrong
temperature, lack of light etc.) are present.
We are offering GA-3 for sale this year in our catalogue.
