Moltkia petraea is a very nice and seems to be a quite hardy little rock
garden shrub. I have managed to winter it over successfully in my Alaska
garden only one season so far. Reaches a height of 6 inches and pinkish
blue flowers. Germination was not difficult.
As with most Alpine or rockery plants I increase the drainage properties
of my sowing medium by using gravel or chicken grit mixed in prior to
sowing, I then sowed the seed over the surface of this mixture in a 3in
pot ( premoist the soil) chicken gritted the surface
using #1fine, put it in a plastic baggy and refrigerated for one month,
After removing the pot I placed them in a warm area under lights and
germination occurred at 40% in 2 weeks and the rest a week later.
