I have a question about iris. I have a lot of them in my yard and have
only one variegated. The leaves are variegated and the flower is blue.
Every year it sends up a seed pod (2-1/2" long). They look kind of like
small, wrinkled hard raisins. Can these be started, and how?

Yes you can start the seeds now-but the seedlings will not be variegated.
Seeds should be soaked in hot water for 8 hours before they are sown.
Germination is erratic-that is you have a few seeds that germinate in a few
weeks and others that are spread out over a month or two or three.
