Why would they become rare?
The number one cause for the reduction in selection of hort crops are stores
like Mal-mart, k-mart or any other "discount" store that people buy plants
from.
If people want "cheep" plants then selection will decrease.
That is why I never buy any thing from those type of stores-those mega stores
kill selection of all products across the board and choke off those product
lines that would compete and cause market diversity.
The seed companies do not make the market-the consumers do-If you want cheep
plants then those plants that cost more to produce will not stay around. The
same with seed selections, when I look at all the seeds that are offered it is
apparent that selection is decreasing (except maybe in Veggies) . I see two
factors effecting this trend. Price and easy germination.
those crops that do not germinate easily and thus people want there money back
on are dropped (Parks).
Price is tied to production, those plants that produce fewer seeds require
more work and less return-they too are dropped because prices are higher than
what consumers will pay- "you can find it cheeper at so and so"
when I look at the poor selection that "so and so" has I can see why they sell
what they have cheeper.
I have to come to my senses and stop posting these types of posts-sorry.
I have been over worked the last few days and am tired, when I am tired I lose
my sense of restraint.
