Hi Joan,
I have been growing stevia for a year now and have been unsuccessful in
starting it from the seed I collected. Everything I've read says how low
and irregular the germinaton rate is. Staring from cuttings or division is
much easier, however you have to have a plant first, I realize.

Stevia grows well in ordinary garden soil outdoors for me. It likes lots of
sun and water. Prune it often to keep it bushy, otherwise there is a
tendency to legginess. In pots, I use a soil mix of equal amounts of coir
fiber and potting soil, and about a third vermiculite and a little perlite.
It's growing like crazy right now in a cool greenhouse. I just took
cuttings to root for Spring planting.
