seeds list

hi duncan,

i joined your mailing list this month.. my intent was to expand my
knowledge on plant propagation, have some questions answered. and maybe,
share some of my personal experiences with propagation. disappointedly i
find my mailbox full of undesirable and unsolicited personal issues and
comments with only a sprinkling of propagation information. although, i
have collected a few good tips.

the individuals who are submitting information on personal issues and their
ill supported personality judgments concerning your management of this
list, clearly are out of line. they may find more satisfaction conversing
on mailing lists dealing with psychotherapy (esp. the passive aggressive
and bereaved), psychology and maybe sociology. this is not the proper
forum to whine about being treated like a child and complain about feeling
intimidated. please….
they are behaving like children and therefore someone must act as the
parent or we would have total chaos and no clear focus.

concerning those who wish to "seed swap," i totally agree with you that
this is personal and they should contact each other privately. "seed
swapping" is something i may wish to get involved with once i have some of
my own to swap. some of the postings sound as though these individuals
also desire socialization. well, they should go for it, but on another
forum, there are plenty tailored to meet each and every need.

mr. martinson, do not assume everyone here wishes to receive information on
other topics. as i mentioned before, off-topics should either be kept
private or aired at other locations. there is a time and place for
everything under the sun (not to be trite)

i do have a suggestion for you though duncan,

how about providing us with a clear format to follow, like an outline i.e.
zone, micro-climate, experience level, greenhouse or windowsill, and your
excellent proposal of starting with our favorites whose botanical name
start with "a" and so on through the alphabet. maybe someone else reading
this has another category suggestion or suggestions they would like to see
included.

ok now, me,
i am new to starting my own long-lived plants from seed and for the most
part. full-time gardening. home gardening that is. i am in u.s.d.a. zone
8 or 9, sunset 15. my past experience with seeds was strictly vegetable
gardens. they literally pop out of the ground (and back in if you have a
gopher). i always had produce to share.

my fascination is currently with perennials. i have found them to be very
temperamental and therefore deliciously challenging. i've found sources
for seed over the internet. since my tastes lead toward the cottage type
garden, i have procured many old-fashioned or heritage type flower and
herb seeds. so far so good. but i am only beginning and hungry for
information.

i also have one question right now. that is,
why will a new seedling or maybe one with four leaves or so, suddenly
shrivel overnight leaving only green nubs above the ground which eventually
turn brown and the whole thing pretty much disappears?

thank-you for your time and attention.
best regards,
diane burns
