Treat your clematis like any other perennial and place it in a bed. An
easy frame is two peony towers fastened together one inverted on top of
the other. Then bend the three legs standing up inward to a curved top.
The vines will get so they completely cover the frame. I have a plant of
Huldine like that now. It is a 3.5 ft mound of green studded with
hundreds of small white flowers. I wonder if the square tomato cages
would work just as well. In the early spring, remove the cages, cut the
vines to the ground and start over.
