Hi Don, I have good luck sprouting Sweet Peas if I soak them overnight in
room temp water before planting. The books suggest that filing or nicking
the seeds is also helpful. I plant mine in Jiffy pots (the type that are
about 1 1/2 " square) and keep them in the GH until they are about 3" tall.
Otherwise the birds always pull up my sprouting peas, sweet peas and beans
and I have to plant over and over again. Then just tear the pots apart and
plant the whole thing. Mine are just beginning to bloom, and I love them
dearly. I planted only antique varieties this year because they smell so
much better than the newer hybrids.

I was always under the impression that sweet peas germinated best in cool
weather and hence, are best planted in the early spring.
