seed storage

Should seeds be stored in the refrigerator? I have many bags in there
stuffed with seed envelopes, and it is getting increasingly hard for me to
find the seed I need. I would prefer to store the seeds in boxes kept
outside the refrigerator, and I would then add some desiccants to keep
moisture from building up inside the boxes. Most of these seeds will be
used within one or two years.
I would appreciate your opinions on this question.
For that matter I would like to hear from anyone who stores large amounts
of seed envelopes. Where do you keep them and how do you keep them (in
their multitude of different amounts and envelope sizes) organized for easy
retrieval?
Thanks
Anni J.
