a point that i have not seen mentioned
you can dry seeds before storing them in jars or the freezer by putting
them, unsealed, in the frig for 14 days; contrary to cooking -book
instructions, the frig is an excellent dessicator geoff

Interesting thing though. Seeds with a small amount of residual moisture
will continue drying somewhat in paper envelopes, and will rot or mold in
ziplocks. Make certain your seed is absolutely dry if you store them in
plastic. Ditto if you freeze them.

(Damp-Rid, Dri-Rite) works wonders. Silica gel is non-toxic and sometimes
gets packed in with my seeds deliberately to ensure dryness. I would not
allow calcium chloride to directly contact the seeds though.
