These mats far out perform the make shift mats and are MUCH safer.
They ain't too expensive since they last forever (:

You might put the trays on top of the waterbed after it is full? Be
sure to find a way to keep the heater dry (protected from any water
contact) (and don't set it all up with flammable materials?).
Commercial soil warmers are a better approach, I bet.
