Janet,
Yes, I tried several last fall and only had germination from A.
consanguineum. Of course, this was before I found out that you are
supposed to soak the seed first if they have been dry stored - from two
days to a week, according to info. I got from the experts on Alpine-L. I
had my seed pots in my garage which is cool, but not cold (50sF). From
what I have read, they may do best with cool night time temperatures (50's
F.) and warmer day temps (70F).
Apparently, soaking is needed to remove germination inhibitors in the seed
coating. I did not do this with A. triphyllum, and the word is that you
should. But, I also used fresh seed which may make the difference as some
seed develops the inhibitors if stored dry for any period, I understand.
A. candidissima and A. sikokianum are truly marvelous plants. I just got
one of each this year and both bloomed! Both were in their female form
and the blooms were lovely, striking and unusual. Unfortunately, with only
one of each, there is no way I will get seeds :-( A. candidissima has an
unusually large and round leaf, compared to other Arisaemas that I have
seen and seems to be larger in all parts...of course, mine just recently
got planted in the ground, so what I have seen is probably not quite
typical. But both are to die for if you are hooked on Arisaemas!!
