Hi BJ,

---------
Here's some info from a book called "Native Plants for use in the
California Landscape" -
Author: Emile Labadie
Publisher: Sierra City Press, 1978

Fremontodendrom: Propagation by seeds and cuttings. Soak seeds in hot
water. (Doesn't mention how deep to plant.) Likes dry, well-drained soil.
Water when young, then discontinue.

All of the Ceanothuses in the book indicate: treat seed with hot water

From the book: Complete Garden Guide to Native Perennials of California
Author: Glenn Keator
Publisher: Chronicle Books, 1990

There is a gold-eyed grass - two kinds, in fact.

Sisyrinchium californicum and S. elmeri (mountain gold-eyed grass.) In the
latter, the leaves are a brighter green and don't turn black. S. elmeri
lives in middle-elevation wet mountainous meadows and likes gardens with
summer water.

S. californicum is a foothill species that stays close to the coast and
likes springs and edges of marshes. The leaves are paler, a grayish green.
It seeds readily, Keator says, and should have some summer water for best
results.

These generally like full sun (along the coast) or light shade.

Hope this helps.

Karen
