Stratification is cold treatment for seed. It mimicks the kind of situation it
would receive in natural growing conditions during a winter. Sometime a double
stratification period is necessary to break dormancy of seeds. We tend to have a
lot of cold weather followed by warm periods then cold again here in northwest
kansas. In fact we had a hard freeze just a few weeks ago.
