I use seed pans that fit the 1020 flats, 8 seed pans to a flat. I fill them
with moist "Pro Mix" for germinating seeds. I cover them with a plastic dome
cover designed again to fit the 1020 flats. Then I placed them outside in a
protected area in the shade for about 6 weeks. I don't actually remember when
I sowed the seeds, but I do know that the domes were snowed on, rained on, and
frozen a few times.
When I brought them in, I placed them on a heating cable with the dome still
in place, and within a week or so I had great germination. I quickly moved
them out to my cold frames, which must have been late April, still in their
seed pans, but without the plastic dome cover. They were misted when needed
and removed from the cold frames before anything else. I continued to feed
and water with Miracle Grow until the seedlings had their true leaves and then
brought them back inside to transplant into six packs. Then were then moved
right back outside. So now, I have 3 1/2 flats of great looking Delphiniums
just waiting for me to take the time to move them up again.
