Duncan:
I'm using Terra Lite's Redi-Earth Coir Mix (a coconut coir pith packaged
mix) for both seedlings and rose cuttings. I won't know about the roses
for a while (I have 12 rose shrubs in the greenhouse that I'm taking
cuttings from all Winter; I like mass plantings) but they look fine so far.
The results with the seeds have been outstanding. As an example, my
Incarvillea seedlings are about 3 months old and the mix is still light and
not compacted. I've had no problems with fungus gnats this year, also. If
I want the medium to get a bit dry, it does, unlike peat mixes which can
stay soggy too long.
It handles very well also; pours like fluffy sand, filling cells without
having to push it in.
I recommend it highly.
