Clay pots are made of porous material. They effectively wick moisture
out of the soil. This is a common problem made more noticeable with the
advent of modern commercial potting soil and the components that make it
up. Change to plastic pots and the problem will be alleviated. Or if
one is a diehard purist for tradional pots, paint the inside of the
clay pot with a sealer that stops the porosity of the pot.
