never work wet soil !!!! amend the soil by adding compost, peat moss, horse
manure, etc...add ingredients that will break down and improve the soil
naturally.. use a garden fork to work the amendments in with.  not a
shovel. every spring and every fall, before planting and after planting,
amend your soil so you will always add more than the plants can use up..
