A letter earlier which discribed using peg board to get even seed
distribution, started a thought process. So I am trying the following
experiment this year. I wanted something finer than peg board to deal with
small seads. I have taken a small piece of lace curtain, which stiffened
and am using that. The material has a lattice of solid material about 1/4"
wide, with netting in the spaces at about 1/16th spacing.
I can't really tell yet how successful it is, as only some plants have
germinated. But on snapdragons, it definitely helped keep the seeds
seperate. Yes, I could have got the same effect with careful use of a card
and pin. But the lattice was definitel;y quicker, and easier on the back..
Also, so far, using suger in place of sand has not produced any ill effects.
