Duncan -- you've changed my life! I don't mean to sound sarcastic, I truly
mean it. I have always been interested in propagation, but was frustrated
by the books I found. Just as I was gearing up to try starting seeds yet
again (I've had problems in the past), I stumbled upon this listserv. It
has given me the courage to try not only seeds, but all kinds of cuttings
and even grafting. Just this past weekend, in fact, we were in the desert
and came upon a beautiful little apricot color flowered mallow. I would
never dig up a wild plant, though I would collect a few seeds, but this was
in bloom and not yet gone to seed. So instead, I clipped off some of the
smaller shoots that had not yet flowered and potted them up. I would never
have even thought of doing it a year ago. And I fully expect to be
successful in getting it to root.
I've recommended the list to several people and I've found the discussion
to be fascinating. I've purcheased Dr. Deno's book at the recommendation
of several list members and found all kinds of information that I would
never have come across without the list. Even the times that people are
inquiring about plants that don't interest me, I still learn something by
reading their posts. And now I live by chicken grit!
Thanks for all your hard work and please keep it up!
