Amy, Jill:
Most of the pansy seed in the US sells during June/July/August, and goes
into the southern U.S. and CA markets. That means sowing occurs in
July/August/September.
Jill is correct: pansies need cool nights to do well. Many of the plants
you see in TX in the fall were sown in the North, and trucked south.

Maybe you could buy a plug flat or two from a local nursery who is getting
them shipped in, and then pot them up yourself.
