To to the best of my knowledge (and experience), only Syringa is typically
propagated by softwood (e.g. current years growth) cuttings, best taken
during a period ranging from just before flowering to shortly afterwards,
while the plants are in active growth. I was successful using rooting
hormone.
Diospyros (persimmon), Robinia, and Paeonia are usually propagated by
budding or grafting.
