Certainly can!!
I did this about 15 yrs ago with good results.
2 yrs ago, I decided I wanted some different ones in another place so went to
3 of my friends one afternoon. What we did was:
We dug up a tuberous root from around the perimeter of their plants.
Took them home and planted them. They did very little last summer.
This spring, I was very surprised to see buds forming and they should open
any day!
Needless to say, I am tickled to death!
I may be wrong, but I think you have to get one of the tuberous roots, not
just a stem with regular roots.
Best wishes,
