AFAIK, gardenias like acid soil and yellow leaves can be a sign that the
soil is too alkaline. I once fixed an indigenous gardenia with yellowing
leaves by giving it a layer of rotted pine needle mulch. It won't hurt to try
acidifying the soil a little.
