I propagate from seeds and cuttings many southern native plants, but
specialize in native azaleas and rhododendrons. I have introduced a
cultivar of Clethra alnifolia with variegated leaves named Creel's
Calico, which also passes on variegation to selfed seedlings perhaps as
much as 50 percent of progeny.
I am seeking seeds of western rhododendron species, particularly Rh.
occidentale and albiflorum, and some advice on growing them. I tried
some occidentale seed last spring under lights over sphagnum moss with
great germination, but most have failed to thrive outside.
Also, does anyone out there know anyone in my area who has been
successful with the western rhododendrons
