No, you have to use an infused form of the herb to get the antiseptic
qualities out of it. I would dip the stem in some tea and then put it in
the bag. If you're really hardcore about using these herbs as
antiseptics, you could purchase the essential oil (thymol in the case of
thyme) but they're expensive and should be used with caution.
