Potatoes are susceptible to a number of vile diseases and viruses that
are transmitted from the seed potato to your garden. Potatoes sold for
food use don't pass the same inspections as potatoes destined for seed.
Your state's Dept of Agriculture can tell you the local rules. Also
many grocery store potatoes are treated with some chemical to retard
sprouting.
There are so many wonderful varieties of potatoes. Treat yourself to
various shapes, assorted colors of either the skin or flesh of a
potato. This year I grew five different colors and shapes of potatoes.
