My suggestion is to create a coldframe with a fairly deep 4-6" bottom of
coarse sand or other draining material and bury the pots up to 1/4" below
their upper edges till spring. be sure to leave 8 to 12" of space between top
of plants and glass cover so that leaves won't burn. emergency frames made
of hay bales or cinder blocks, lined with rigid foam for more insulation,
also work. In really cold weather, either throw rugs on top for a few days,
or straw inside loosely for added protection. Main concern is orientation of
coldframe as you don't want a site that heats up a lot during the day and
cools down fast at night, I use a northeast exposure and find I can leave the
glass open 2" until the coldest part of the winter and then vent it as
daylength and heat increase. Joanne
