Re: trays, peat pots, APS units

> Dear Darin:

The APS trays do last a long time; mine seem to be nearly 10 years
old. You scrub and disinfect between uses. Store them inside since
chipmunks seem to chew on them. If disaster strikes you can order
missing parts of your APS from Gardener's Supply. They work well for
seeds that all germinate at the same time. Highly domesticated seeds
like petunias, impatiens, most veggies all germinate at the same time.
They don't work for more feral type of seeds where seeds continue to
germinate over a long time. With these seeds I use both community and
individual pots.
After your seeds germinate you can hold the young plants in the APS
container for quite awhile. But don't wait to long to repot into
something larger. Keep an eye on the roots growing into the capillary
matting.
    Good luck.
Best, Vicki
