I have to agree with Amber Hearn. Seedlings of Hostas can be very rewarding.
I have collected seeds and grown on Hosta tokudama Aureo-nebulosa to get an
interesting assortment of seedlings. None are variegated, some show the
puckering of the leaves, some are blue, some yellow, and a few were green. A
worthy endeavor especially if you are growing on species Hostas. I stored
the dry seed over winter in the refrigerator in an airtight container and
sowed them the next spring. My seedlings take a 2-3 years to flower and a
few more to show their true growth habit. Weed out the ones the slugs like
and those that get disease and you will be even happier with your crop. Have
fun.
