I believe there have been studies relating light and CO2 availability to
plant growth. However, each species would have its own equation; each has
evolved for different conditions. Also, as pointed out earlier, there are
many other variables involved.

As for CO2 generators, the aquarium hobby has an interesting idea. They use
yeast in a separate container to supply CO2 to submersed plants. There are
details available on the web, I just don't remember where.

Finally, for lighting info, again, check out the aquarium stuff on the web.
High quality and high quantity light is needed for both freshwater plants
and saltwater corals.
