Re: Plant hormone for rooting
I have never heard of using aspirin, but who knows, it might work. As far as
concentrations, I cut up several pieces of green willow (the smaller pieces &
more cuts the better.. & its OK to leave leaves on). Place in a container (as
many as will fit) & pour hot water over them & soak them in water for 1-2 days.
Then I remove the willow & I start soaking the cuttings in the solution. I have
tried the following methods
1. use the solution to root plants that would root in water. they root 25 to 33%
faster.
2. use the solution for a soak for 12 hours or so. then plant for rooting, as
usual.
3. pour a bit of the rooting solution around the base of the cutting, twice a
week.
Although I have not kept enough data to produce charts, it appears that the
willow steepings do decrease rooting time by 25% or more. (that is cuttings stuck
without rooting hormone. I have not compared the speed versus that of a hormone
powder)
I have not tried to root cuttings by leaving them permanently in the steepings.
