This is a question rather than an answer to your question. I rescued an
orphaned and unidentified pot of grass at a local building supply
company this summer. The salesperson couldn't identify it, but the woman
in line behind me said it was Miscanthus sinensis. So far, so good. It's
the seed pods that throw me. They look all the world like three
dimensional stars 1/2" to 3/4" in size...in Mexico lamps are made in
this shape out of pierced tin or capiz shells. Do you know what I mean?
None of my books nor any in the local library on grasses mention any
such a unique shape. Any suggestions about what the grass might be, or
are grass-growers so blase and jaded that they don't bother mentioning
star shaped seed pods?

My question may be academic. I potted the grass in a larger tub and
although it seemed to grow well this year, it didn't go to seed. Maybe
it appreciates being pot bound. Do you know? I still have some of the
year-old pods but haven't tried to grow the seed. What has your
experience been?
