Re: Labiates Rooting in Water

Someone asked about overwintering impatients....A bad choice of words
on my part, because I don't actually "overwinter" them, I take cuttings.
See
below:

All I do is wait until the plants are very leggy -- about early fall -- and
I cut
about 6" worth of stem. Strip the lower leaves and stick the cutting in a
glass
of water. I change the water daily if I remember and place the container
in a
sunny window. In a couple of days (or overnight in few cases), you'll
start to
see roots coming from the stem. When you have a lot of those, pot up the
cuttings in potting soil and that's pretty much it. I have some lights
that I grow
seedlings under and I keep the rooted cuttings under those, pinching them
back every so often so they will grow bushy instead of tall and lanky.

I'm partial to the varigated leafed impatients, and since most garden
centers
around me charge extra for those, this is an easy way to carry them from
season to season.
