Digitalis-Hollyhock

Marian,
I collect seeds of digitalis and columbine (I don't have hollyhocks as
of now) and start them within days in 6-packs saved over the years and
reused time and again. In about 8 weeks I move them to 4" pots and in
another 8 weeks they go into their permanent position in the yard. This
way I get as many plants as I want. They will flower in the next spring
and summer. I also scatter a few seeds in wild areas of the yard where
I want to imitate nature and get a mixed flower bed.

I live in California so I don't need to start these plants indoors.
Other tender plants I have to start indoors, like marigolds, begonias,
salvias, etc. These I also start in 6-packs about 8 weeks before I put
them out.

If you live in a cold winter area, yes, I would collect the seeds and
start them indoors. The sooner, the better. Good luck!
