Re: Hello & question !

roses need very rich soil with a lot of compost.......plus they need a fullllll sunny location.  minumum of 8 hours....how are we doing so far, did your roses have these requirements?   mulch well to conserve water, and keep beds weed free... prune roses so the plant has good air circulation, cutting out stems that are in the center and cross over other stems. good air circulation is a must, otherwise you will get black spot.   get a good book on roses, read, read, read, and start over again in the spring. this gives you time to work up and amend your soil, and maybe find a new location, or change your mind and plant something else, roses need a lot of time, and work........

Subject: Hello & question !

Hi  -  I'm  new  to  the  list  and  find  it  very  interesting .
My  problem  is  I'm  trying  to  recreate  a  rose  garden  on  my  family  property.  It  has  been  very  neglected  and  only  two  remain .  I  added  several  new  varieties  this  year  only  to  have  2  of  the  12  survive  the  summer .  Is  there  a  special  way  to  go  about  this ?  Any  ideas  or  input  would  be  most  welcomed .
Thanks ,
Paula
