Well, if I have Stropharia rugos-annula (sp?) planted underneath my
Marrubium vulgare, and develop an insect problem with the horehound, then I
certainly don't want a fungicidal insecticide to deal with the problem.
On a more applicable note, applying a fungicide/insecticide when only an
insecticide is needed runs the risk of disrupting the soil ecology (lots of
little fungui in there!) without a need for this disruption. Applying an
insecticide/fungicide where only a fungicide involves the risks of
insecticide use when those risks could be avoided by applying only a
fungicide.
Combinations are nice when you need both, but I seldom need more than one
chemical at a time.
