I would like to follow up on our exchange of ideas for growing lotus
from seed early this year. I started seeds in sand in April, some of
which rotted right away, but two plants have survived until now. They
were repotted twice, increasing the amount of soil each time. I keep
them in an on-ground tub, which brings me to today's question since I
live in zone 5: How do I carry them through winter? I have a small
garden koi pond that I keep open with the help of a de-icer. Would
the lotus stand a better chance of survival in the pond or should I
bring them indoors? I read somewhere that you can overwinter lotus
and tropical waterlilies in your basement, but my basement is warm
and my gut feeling is that the plants would rot. Help please!
