With most cuttings, root growth leads leafing out - the plant wouldn't put out
leaves if it didn't have the roots to support them. Figs and grapes are rather
tough, anyway.

To be on the safe side while transplanting, howk out a much-too-large circle of
earth, then shake off the excess. This assures that you get the whole root
ball.

I notice you are in a frost-free Mediterranean climate zone. Fall is the time
to plant most cuttings in climates such as ours. The long, wet winter allows
plants to get established before the stresses of the hot, usually drier summer.
