I do mulch (leaves and such) each year and it is improving things, though
sometimes it appears that the amendments I put in just sink to the bottom. I
have installed a drip system, etc. and that helps alot. I have found with my
situation that flooding does not work as it drains so fast that the roots do
not pick up enough water. The sprinklers work well as it not only goes into
the ground drop by drop it also adds moisture to the air, how ever brief that
may be. The drip system is working best thought. What I am finding is that
most shade plants require to much moisture for this area, such as hosta, it
is rated for here and survives our winters but the summer is to much. We
range from 18 to 120.
