The clumping type liriope needs to be cut to the ground, or close,
each spring b4 it's new growth starts.  For a shortish edger, that's
not a prob.  But I have a friend who has a lot of it planted & it's
gotten v. thick over the years & it is a major chore to cut it back.
The non-clumping type, I'd have to look up re what has to be done to
it in the spring.  I love it!  Look in a Taylor's ground cover
booklet.....Lots of choices.....In the back there are charts which
include such info as evergreen or not, zones, sun or shade, ......  I
like that book.  My version is a 3b -- gc's, vines, grasses.  They
don't pretend to cover all plants or act like a Dirr of gc's etc, but
I think they're a good starting point!  HTH
